THE ART OF COOKING THAT BRINGS FAMILY TOGETHER

“Eating is a necessity but cooking is an art”. For years now I have developed a cooking habit which I so much enjoy doing. I read books and watch various clips about cooking and recipes in order to learn more on how to prepare variety of healthy and tasty dishes on my own. Many people like eating out in hotels or fast foods which in most cases are not healthy. When people cook at home, they tend to choose fresher ingredients and use less sugar, salt, fats and processed ingredients regardless of their dietary goals. This makes one eat healthy and clean food. I once read a book explaining people who cook their meals at home eat healthier and eat fewer calories than those who cook less. I love cooking but the cleanup after cooking truly annoys me.

In most African families women are the ones doing the cooking. I was brought up in a family where by all females had to learn how to cook so that they’re able to prepare food for their husband and families in future when they get married. My mama was a good cooker, whatever she cooks was very tasty and everyone enjoyed it. This made me pay more attention whenever she cooked for us so that I don’t get to miss any tips from it. I really wanted to be a better cooker than she was because I personally like eating a tasty food.

Since I enjoy cooking, I have made all my loved ones enjoy what I cook. Cooking is very entertaining especially when it involves more than one person. This has brought the family together because preparing meals at home and including family members in meal preparation is one way to give and share love. When it comes down to feeding your body and mind, nothing is superior to preparing your food from scratch with quality ingredients, hygiene and served with love. Food prepared with a calm mind and loving thoughts can become a tonic for both the physical body and the soul.

Working together helps to create a sense of unity, peace and harmony from family level to the community level and all this can help bring up development in different sectors.
